Dan Carter misses out on New Zealand squad to face England

New Zealand name their 23-man matchday squad for this weekend's match against England at Twickenham, retaining four players from the 74-6 thrashing of the United States.

Dan Carter has not been named in New Zealand's 23-man matchday squad to face England, despite having recently made his long-awaited return from injury.

The 32-year fly-half, who played 30 minutes of the All Blacks' 74-6 victory over the United States last weekend, misses out for the Twickenham clash with Aaron Cruden wearing the number 10 shirt. Beauden Barrett will provide cover from the bench.

Cruden, Israel Dagg, Sonny Bill Williams and number eight Kieran Read all retain their place from the comfortable win at Soldier Field five days ago, in a squad boasting more than 1,000 caps between them.

Skipper Richie McCaw has returned to the starting XV, meanwhile, along with Julian Savea, centre Conrad Smith and lock Sam Whitelock.

"This Test match is a great opportunity to once again experience the atmosphere of Twickenham and to lay down a marker of where we are currently at in relation to our opponents, England," New Zealand head coach Steve Hansen said.

"We are extremely excited about this challenge and looking forward to it immensely. Having played England already three times this year, at the beginning of our season, and again having the opportunity to play them at the end of season, will tell us a lot about how much our game has progressed."

England suffered a 3-0 Test series defeat in New Zealand earlier this year.
