Newcastle Falcons ease to victory against Harlequins

Harlequins end their Aviva Premiership season with a disappointing 37-21 defeat away at Newcastle Falcons.

Newcastle Falcons have ended their Aviva Premiership season in style with victory over Harlequins.

The Falcons made a lightening start as Richard Mayhew powered through the Harlequins defence to score the opening try after just four minutes.

Two penalties from reliable kicker Nick Evans kept the London side in sight, and they eventually took the lead just before the half-hour mark as Evans crossed for a try.

The New Zealander kicked a penalty just before the break to keep them ahead, but Newcastle scored their second try of the game shortly after as Scott Lawson crashed over following a maul.

However, England winger Marland Yarde hit back for Harlequins just four minutes later as he scored his ninth try of the season deep in the corner.

The Falcons regained the lead a few minutes later, though, as Mike Blair darted away from the opposition defence to touch down under the posts on his final Newcastle appearance, before Adam Powell and Andy Saull confirmed the win late on.
