Late Rory Jennings penalty gives Bath Rugby narrow win at Harlequins

Rory Jennings kicks a late penalty to help Bath Rugby beat Harlequins 23-21 in the LV= Cup.

A late Rory Jennings penalty has handed Bath Rugby a narrow 23-21 win away at Harlequins in the LV= Cup.

Bath made a fast start and scored the game's opening try after just four minutes, when England hopeful Matt Banahan surged through the hosts' defence in impressive fashion to touch the ball down.

Harlequins took a while to get going, but they eventually responded in the 24th minute when winger Charlie Walker dashed over in the corner after a strong passing move.

His fellow winger Tom Williams then put the Quins ahead with a second try 11 minutes later, as he scrambled over in the opposite corner.

Three penalties from fly-half Nick Evans either side of half time sent Harlequins nine points clear, and it looked like they would see the game out before Bath earned themselves a penalty try to get to within two points.

With Harlequins having a man in the sin bin, Bath pressed hard and eventually found an opening when they were awarded a penalty in the 78th minute.

Jennings successfully kicked the ball over the posts, and Bath held on to win their first game at Harlequins in 11 years.
