Sir Clive Woodward: 'Danny Cipriani has similar talent to Jonny Wilkinson'

Sir Clive Woodward feels that Danny Cipriani has the same level of talent as that of England legend Jonny Wilkinson, following the 27-year-old's recall ahead of the Six Nations.

Sir Clive Woodward believes that England fly-half Danny Cipriani has talent comparable to Jonny Wilkinson.

The 27-year-old earned a recall into Stuart Lancaster's training squad for the Six Nations, which could put him in line to earn his first Test appearance since 2008.

Woodward has revealed that he would pick Cipriani in his team if he were coach, and feels that the fly-half has a similar level of ability to that of England legend Wilkinson.

He told the Daily Mail: "I have watched so many high-class fly-halves down the years, with Jonny Wilkinson unquestionably being the best to have played for England.

"But Cipriani is the only English number 10 of the past 20 years who, if I'd been coach and he had been up for selection at the same time as Jonny, could have caused big selection headaches.

"The Sale man's skill-set is so complete. He poses an attacking threat with ball in hand and has a superb kicking game and world-class distribution. I think Wilkinson would have got the nod over him in the end but the fact I even mention them in the same breath shows how highly I rate Cipriani."

England get their Six Nations campaign underway against Wales in Cardiff on February 6.
