England wing Jonny May 'likely to miss Six Nations'

England wing Jonny May requires surgery on a knee injury that is likely to rule him out of the entirety of this year's Six Nations.

England wing Jonny May appears unlikely to feature at all during the upcoming Six Nations due to a knee injury suffered while playing for Harlequins.

May sustained the problem in Sunday's Aviva Premiership match against Gloucester and it has now emerged that he will need surgery.

"Jonny has suffered a pretty significant knee injury that requires surgery," Gloucester director of rugby David Humphreys told the Gloucester Citizen.

"He's seeing a specialist on Tuesday and based on the outcome of that we will have a much clearer picture on what needs to be done.

"Most importantly, it is a huge blow for Jonny to suffer an injury like that at this stage of the season. But knowing him and his dedication, he will leave no stone unturned in his recovery."

England begin their bid for a first Six Nations title in five years against Scotland under new head coach Eddie Jones on February 6.
