Dan Norton happy with opening performance

England winger Dan Norton is pleased with both the team performance and his own individual display following their win in the opening match of the Commonwealth Games.

England sevens player Dan Norton has said that the team are happy with their performance in the opening match of the Commonwealth Games today.

Simon Amor's side got their campaign underway with a 57-0 victory over Sri Lanka at Ibrox this afternoon, putting them on course to progress through to the second day as one of the top two in Group D.

As one of the favourites for the gold medal behind reigning champions New Zealand, Norton admits that there is still room for improvement, but was pleased to have got off to a winning start.

"We managed to stick to our own gameplan and remember what we've been working on over the last few weeks. I think we went pretty well in the first half," he told Sports Mole.

"There's always [room for improvement]. The first game is always about getting the basics done well, stepping on the ladder and being involved towards the end of the tournament."

Norton scored two tries in the victory, and he was similarly pleased with his individual contribution.

"It went alright to be fair. I saw a bit of the ball which is always nice. It was good to get out there and get used to the atmosphere and get my legs running," he added.

England will face Uganda next before ending the day with what is expected to be the group decider against Australia.
