Leading female jockey Hayley Turner will be out of action for "six to eight weeks" after suffering a broken ankle in a fall at Bath on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old's agent Guy Jewell said the rider was "comfortable" after an operation on Thursday.

"I think she'll be out for six to eight weeks but sportsmen and women are often back quicker than the norm," he said.

She was on her way to the starting stalls when her mount Rose Aurora dumped her to the ground before rearing up and landing on her.

The Newmarket-based jockey wrote on her website: "I was in a lot of pain and felt very sick, the ambulance team were there immediately, I then started to be a bit of a diva myself, the gas and air soon put a stop to that - loved it.

"I have now pulled myself together, it could have been so much worse, just my ankle, no head or spin injury. It's simply part of our job, you have to cherish the highs and brush off the lows.

Turner, who has ridden 83 winners so far this season, has been enjoying the most successful spell of her career, riding her first two Group One winners on Dream Ahead in the July Cup and Margot Did at York's Ebor Festival.

"I've had an amazing season and at least now I have time to celebrate it," she added.
