The average attendance at World Cup 2014 matches in Brazil is now the second highest of all time.
The record of 68,991 set in the United States in 1994 remains untouched, but with a figure of 52,762 in Brazil, this year's tournament narrowly surpasses Germany's average attendance of eight years ago with four games still to go.
FIFA spokeswoman Delia Fischer said in a statement: "We think that [the 1994] record will stay for quite some time due to the huge capacity of the stadiums in the US."
A total of 3,165,693 have so far attended World Cup matches at Brazil 2014, setting an average of 98.3% capacity across the event.
