Paiva, who has also been fined £6,500, struck Mauricio Pinilla during a half-time scuffle in last weekend's second-round encounter between the teams.

FIFA confirmed that the first match of his suspension was served on Friday when the Brazilians defeated Colombia in the quarter-finals.

Brazil return to action on Tuesday when they face Germany in the semi-finals of the tournament.
