West Ham United striker Andy Carroll was reportedly threatened at gunpoint while driving home to Essex from training on Wednesday.
A report in the Daily Mail has claimed that Carroll was confronted by two motorcyclists - one toting a gun - when he reached a junction in his Mercedes.
The 27-year-old, who was alone in the car, allegedly refused to pull over when demanded to do so by the motorcyclists and ended up striking several vehicles when he sped off in fear.
The report adds that Carroll drove back to the West Ham training base and in a 'shaken and stunned' state asked for help at reception.
It is believed that club staff called police at 12.45pm and an investigation is being carried out.
Carroll has been struggling with injury problems since the opening day of the season.
