Empire State Building lights up to celebrate USA's progression at World Cup

The Empire State Building celebrates USA's progression into the last 16 of the World Cup by lighting up the tower in red, white and blue.

The Empire State Building in New York City was lit up in the nation's colours of red, white and blue after the USA reached the knockout rounds of the World Cup.

Jurgen Klinsmann's side made it through to the last 16 in Brazil, despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to Germany in their Group G clash yesterday.

In celebration of reaching the knockout rounds, the iconic building in New York changed their lights at the top of the tower.

A photograph of the building was posted on Twitter with the message: "To celebrate @USSoccer's advancement in Brazil today, we are lit in red, white and blue tonight. #USA #LetsDoThis."

President Barack Obama also got involved by watching the match on Air Force One.
