Mug manufacturer mistakes Chris Smalling for Barack Obama

A mug manufacturer prints US president Barack Obama's face on a mug intended to bear the image of England defender Chris Smalling.

A mug manufacturer has printed pictures of US president Barack Obama on an England souvenir mug intended to bear the image of Chris Smalling.

An apprentice for a china company in Dorset was tasked with sourcing images for the mugs which feature members of the 2014 World Cup squad, but was mistaken when the president's image was found in a Google image search for the Manchester United defender.

Managing director of Wholesale Clearance UK, Karl Baxter, who has been offered the mugs at a cut price, told the Daily Express: "With this guy playing in defence, then England will surely be secure at the Barack, which is more than can be said about the employment position of the guy who printed these."

2,000 mugs featuring the president's face were printed before the mistake was recognised.
