Rory McIlroy 'apologises to Andy Murray for missing his US Open match'

Rory McIlroy reportedly texts Andy Murray to apologise for not attending Flushing Meadows to give him support in his first-round match at the US Open.

World number one golfer Rory McIlroy has reportedly apologised to Andy Murray for failing to turn up to Flushing Meadows to support him in his first-round match at the US Open.

The Northern Irishman received a visit from Murray at The Barclays in New Jersey last week, and the pair were spotted together at Madison Square Garden watching an exhibition basketball game.

According to the Daily Mail, McIlroy sent a text message to Murray apologising for failing to attend his first-round win over Robin Haase on Monday.

A number of celebrities have watched the stars in action at Flushing Meadows, and retired football David Beckham is expected to attend this week.
