Ryan Lochte on Michael Phelps's DUI: 'He makes dumb decisions'

Ryan Lochte believes that his fellow Team USA swimmer Michael Phelps will "become smarter" after he was arrested and charged with drink-driving for the second time.

Ryan Lochte has claimed that his fellow Team USA swimmer Michael Phelps makes "dumb decisions", after the most successful Olympian of all time was arrested and charged with drink-driving on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old has apologised after he was pulled over by police in Baltimore, Maryland for allegedly speeding at 85mph in a 45mph zone.

It is believed that the 22-time Olympic medallist was caught by the authorities after spending eight hours gambling at a nearby casino.

Olympic champion Lochte told TMZ: "I'm not concerned - he just makes dumb decisions.

"He has so much money to get a driver. I even have a driver. Just stinks for the sport of swimming, but he will become smarter from this. Luckily he did not hurt himself or someone else."

Phelps was given 18 months probation back in 2004 for drink-driving when he was 19 years old.
