Adam Peaty hails "amazing" night at BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards

Swimmer Adam Peaty says that he is "proud to be British", despite missing out on winning the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year award in Glasgow.

Adam Peaty has expressed his pride about being British after attending the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards in Glasgow.

The British swimmer was one of 10 nominees for the award after winning four gold medals at the European Championships in Berlin, as well as three Commonwealth medals in Scotland at the age of 19.

The Uttoxeter-born athlete didn't acquire enough votes to take home an award as he watched Jo Pavey come third, Rory McIlroy second and Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton win the main gong.

Today, Peaty tweeted: "Well last night was amazing! So proud to be British! A massive thank you to everyone who has supported me so far! Well done @LewisHamilton."

This season, the teenager set a new world record of 26.62 seconds in the 50m breaststroke.
