Dina Asher-Smith discovers A-Level results before European Championships race

Great Britain's Dina Asher-Williams discovers that she has earned a place at King's College London just moments before her 200m heat at the European Championships.

Great Britain sprinter Dina Asher-Smith discovered that she passed her A-Levels just minutes before this morning's 200m qualifiers at the European Championships in Zurich.

The 19-year-old eased her way into the semi-finals of the event alongside fellow Brits Jodie Williams and Bianca Williams by qualifying in 22.75s.

Prior to that, Asher-Smith's mother informed her that she has earned a place at King's College London to study history.

"She texted me and I was like 'yippee'," The Guardian quotes Asher-Smith as saying. "It was about 20 minutes before I went to warm up so it was pretty close. It's quite a boost and I'm so happy.

"I was probably more nervous for my exams results than the heats to be fair. I was absolutely petrified of not getting into university but I got in. I don't know exactly what I got, but I'm going to King's College, London, for history and I needed three As so I got somewhere around there."

The world junior champion finished second-fastest in the heats, behind Holland's Dafne Schippers.
