Stoke City cancel Player of the Year awards

Stoke City cancel their Player of the Season awards as relegation to the Championship looms.

Stoke City have cancelled their Player of the Year awards with relegation to the Championship hanging over them.

The club said that holding the annual black-tie event would be "inappropriate" given the troubles the team has endured this term, reports The Telegraph.

The decision is said to have been made by the Stoke hierarchy, with the backing of manager Paul Lambert.

Stoke are currently 19th in the Premier League, four points from safety with three games remaining.

Recent reports suggest that Stoke are planning to stand by Lambert if they are relegated.
