St Mirren's John McGinn to take legal action over pole accident

St Mirren chairman Stewart Gilmour confirms that midfielder John McGinn has begun legal action over a training-ground prank that left him with a thigh injury.

St Mirren midfielder John McGinn has begun legal proceedings over a freak accident in training involving a pole.

The 20-year-old was speared in the thigh by a training pole thrown by teammate Steven Thompson in what began as a prank at the Ralston Training Complex in April.

Club chairman Stewart Gilmour has confirmed that McGinn, who missed the rest of the season as a result of the injury, has got lawyers involved.

"I can confirm we have received a letter and we have responded," Gilmour told BBC Scotland's Sportsound.

"There's not a lot I can say about it because our lawyers are obviously involved with John's solicitors and also our insurers. It would be improper for me to make any comment on anything regarding an employee."

McGinn is now out of contract.
