France 'to deport 50 Russian fans from Euro 2016 following violent clashes'

France reportedly intend to deport close to 50 Russian football fans from Euro 2016 following their involvement in violent clashes.

France reportedly intend to deport close to 50 Russian football fans following their alleged involvement in violent clashes in Marseille during Euro 2016.

Groups of supporters brawled with England fans in the build-up to Saturday's 1-1 draw at the Stade Velodrome.

After the final whistle, Russian fans chased down their rivals in the stadium, and their pursuit was made easier due to lax segregation in the ground.

Now, head of a Russian supporters' group Alexander Shprygin has claimed that French riot police stopped a coach-load of fans travelling to Lille for their nation's Group B match against Slovakia.

"They want to deport almost 50 people including women who did not take part in anything," Shprygin told Reuters. "The police are making up for their mistakes three days ago.

"We are in a bus in Cannes and we have been blocked in by riot police. We are not going anywhere for the time being and are waiting for the consul."

Meanwhile, five England fans have been sentenced to jail for their involvement in the violent scenes.
