A 17-year-old male has been arrested over assaulting boxer Anthony Crolla in a brutal attack that left the world title contender in hospital with a fractured skull.
Police confirmed that the teenager was in their custody and being questioned over suspicion of assault, burglary and possession with intent to supply drugs.
Crolla, 28, was hit over the head with a concrete slab after he chased two robbers away from his neighbour's home following a botched burglary in Manchester on Tuesday evening.
He managed to catch one, while the other struck him with what Greater Manchester Police claim was a "heavy object".
The Mancunian fighter, who also suffered a broken ankle, is said to be recovering well, but his long-awaited WBA title shot on January 23 with Cuban Richard Abril was cancelled.
The lightweight has won 29 of his 35 professional fights.
