The murder trial of Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius has been adjourned until August 19.

The South African double amputee returned to Pretoria Magistrates' Court this morning after he was released on bail in February for the alleged murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

A brief hearing resulted in Magistrate Daniel Thulare ruling that the trial should be adjourned at the request of the prosecutor, who claimed that the defence agreed with the date.

Pistorius, who competed in both the Paralympic and Olympic Games in London last summer, only uttered the words, "Yes, sir," to confirm that he understood proceedings of the adjournment.

Pistorius denies murder but admits that he fired four shots through his bathroom door at who he thought was an intruder in his home.
