Oscar Pistorius to undergo psychiatric tests in hospital?

Oscar Pistorius's murder trial could be delayed by a month should he be ordered to undergo further examination on his mental health.

Oscar Pistorius could be ordered to undergo psychiatric tests before his murder trial is allowed to continue at the High Court in Pretoria.

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel stated in court that the Paralympic champion's mental health should be examined further after Dr Merryl Vorster revealed yesterday that he has an anxiety disorder.

Dr Vorster continued to be questioned by the state on day 31 of Pistorius's murder trial, in which he is accused of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, whom he shot dead through a bathroom door at his home in Pretoria on Valentine's Day last year.

Nel has put forward an application for Pistorius to undergo tests, which will then need to be approved by the judge, who could take up to a month to make the final decision.

Pistorius denies murder by maintaining that he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder when he fired the shots.
