Former Newcastle captain Bobby Moncur believes that Paul Gascoigne should work within football following his recent stint at rehab.

Former Newcastle United captain Bobby Moncur believes that his ex-teammate Paul Gascoigne should be given a role within the game following his recent stint in rehab.

The 45-year-old has returned to the UK following a five-week stay at a treatment centre near Phoenix, Arizona, to help battle an alcohol addiction.

"He has something which not all ex-pros have, a presence and charisma which could be used in some capacity in the game," Moncur told The Mirror.

"I believe that is key for him now, whether it is working with kids, or at one of his former clubs, he has to find a purpose in life."

Gascoigne revealed earlier this week that Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson helped him get through his stint in rehab.
