Matthew Maynard: 'Tom's death has left us broken'

Former England cricketer Matthew Maynard says that he and his family are still struggling to cope with the death of son Tom.

Former England cricketer Matthew Maynard has claimed that he and his family continually struggle to cope following the death of son Tom.

The 23-year-old died in June last year when he was electrocuted by a live rail before getting hit by a train on the London Underground.

The former Surrey batsman was found to have had high levels of alcohol, as well as cocaine and ecstasy in his system when he died.

"Losing Tom has left the whole family broken," Maynard told the Daily Mail. "He's always in our thoughts and he's always with us.

"But the process of grieving doesn't really get any easier. When you see people for the first time since it happened, a lot of them know what to say or what not to say but a good number don't."

An inquest revealed that Tom had been taking cocaine in the three months before his death.
