Golfer Daniela Holmqvist bitten by black widow spider

Swedish golfer Daniela Holmqvist manages to finish her round in Australia, despite getting bitten by a venomous black widow spider.

Swedish golfer Daniela Holmqvist continued playing in Australia, despite getting bitten by a black widow spider.

The 24-year-old, who was competing in the pre-qualifier for the Australian Open at the Royal Canberra Golf Club yesterday, swatted the spider away after she felt a pain in her ankle.

Holmqvist swiftly broke open the bite with a golf tee and squeezed out the venom, which can kill adults within an hour.

"When I told the local caddies in my group what had happened, they got very upset and said it was a Black Widow, and immediately started looking for their phones to call the medics," Holmqvist told Svensk Golf.

"A clear fluid came out. It wasn't the prettiest thing I've ever done, but I had to get as much of it out of me as possible. It still hurts. I don't recommend getting bitten by a black widow."

Holmqvist, who managed to finish the round by shooting a 74, was followed by medics around the course in case she passed out.
