Former Premier League footballer Clarke Carlisle has pleaded guilty to drink-driving.
The 35-year-old was caught driving 'erratically' by police on Pentonville Road, London and failed to provide a sample on December 20 last year.
The former chairman of the Professional Footballers' Association had his case adjourned initially when he was admitted to hospital after jumping in front of a lorry on the A64 near York last December.
Today, Highbury Magistrates' Court heard that Carlisle almost hit a Tesco delivery truck after coming close to mounting the pavement.
Police officers told the court that the retired footballer, who has suffered with depression in the past, swerved onto the wrong side of the road to avoid the truck before pulling back.
The court also heard that Carlisle refused to cooperate with officers when he was taken to Islington Police Station after failing to provide a sample via a breathalyser.
As a result of his guilty plea, Carlisle was banned from driving and will be sentenced on May 14.
