BT Sport confirms price rise

BT Sport confirms a price rise for some customers ahead of next season.

BT Sport has confirmed that the cost of its package will rise by up to £2 ahead of next season.

Sky customers who use a broadband supplier other than BT Broadband currently pay £19.99 per month to access the BT Sport channels, but this price will rise to £21.99 per month from July 3.

A further charge of £4 per month applies to access the channels in HD, with another charge of £5 to enable the channels on a second box or SkyQ.

The news comes as the new big-money TV rights deal comes into effect for Premier League football, where BT and Sky Sports will pay £5.1 billion for the rights to show top-flight games for three further seasons.

As part of the deal, BT will show 42 games per season live, a rise of four matches on its current arrangement, while Sky will show 126 games live, including regular Friday night fixtures for the first time.

Sky has similarly raised its prices ahead of the new season.
