David Beckham named as ambassador for new project Sky Academy

David Beckham becomes an ambassador for new project the Sky Academy, which aims to create opportunities for young people.

Retired footballer David Beckham has become the face of new initiative the Sky Academy, which aims to create opportunities for young people.

The 38-year-old will act as an ambassador for the Academy, while athletes Jessica Ennis-Hill and Darren Campbell have also come on board, as has dancer Ashley Banjo.

The project will work with people under the age of 25 across Britain and Ireland to help grow their talent through a number of artistic and sporting avenues.

"Mentors and role models have always been important to me," Sky News quotes Beckham as saying.

"When I was young, they helped me to believe in myself and gave me the confidence to follow my dreams. That's what Sky Academy will do and I'm excited to be a part of it."

The initiative is hoping to create opportunities for one million young people by 2020.
