A neurosurgeon has revealed that former England striker Jeff Astle died of a brain condition that is usually found in boxers.
Dr Willie Stewart re-examined the brain of the 59-year-old, who passed away in 2002 after being originally diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
According to the Daily Star, tests carried out by Dr Stewart confirm that the former sportsman suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
Following an inquest in 2002, Astle's family have been urging the Football Association and Professional Footballers' Association to look into any relation between head injuries and dementia.
