Lance Armstrong steps down as a board member of the cancer support charity Livestrong which he himself founded in 1997.

Lance Armstrong has resigned as a board member of the cancer support charity Livestrong.

The 41-year-old American cyclist, who himself founded the organisation in 1997, had earlier stepped down as chairman of the charity following the doping revelations.

"We are deeply grateful to Lance for creating a cause that has served millions of cancer survivors and their families," said chairman Jeff Garvey.

"His devotion to serving survivors is unparalleled and for 15 years, he committed himself to that cause with all his heart on behalf of the Livestrong Foundation."

Armstrong has been banned from cycling for life by the United States Anti-Doping Agency.
