Talks between Mike Ashley and Amanda Staveley's PCP Partners over a potential takeover of Newcastle United are reported to have come to an end for the time being.

Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley and Amanda Staveley's PCP Partners have reportedly ended talks over a potential takeover of the club for the time being.

Ashley put the North-East outfit up for sale in 2017 and Staveley has regularly been seen at St James' Park during ongoing negotiations.

However, the two parties reportedly disagreed over the value of the Magpies, with a relegation compensation clause understood to be a sticking point at one stage in negotiations.

According to Sky Sports News, talks between Ashley and Staveley are now off, with no deal in place between the two parties for a sale of the Premier League club and no further discussions expected at present.

"It is only right to let the fans know that there is no deal on the table or even under discussion with Amanda Staveley and PCP," the media outlet quotes a source close to Ashley as saying.

Newcastle currently sit 15th in the Premier League table.
