Pep Guardiola reportedly consoled Manchester United midfielder Fred after the Brazilian was a subject of racial abuse during Saturday's meeting with Manchester City.

A man has been arrested by police after several United players said that they had received racist abuse from the stands.

Cameras picked up the sight of a City supporter making a monkey gesture to the 26-year-old as he went over to take a corner in the second half.

According to The Independent, Guardiola sought out Fred after the game to console the player in the mixed zone at the Etihad.

Fred was also pelted with a lighter during the same incident, which saw several projectiles emerge from that side of the ground.

The game saw United claim an impressive 2-1 victory courtesy of goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in the second half.
