Manchester United's Antonio Valencia shocked by Christian Benitez's death

Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia pays tribute to Christian Benitez following the announcement of the 27-year-old's death.

Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia has expressed his shock at the announcement that former Birmingham City striker Christian Benitez has died at the age of 27.

The tragic news was confirmed by the player's agent this afternoon, with reports circulating that the Ecuadorian forward suffered complications following appendicitis.

Valencia wrote on Twitter: "Brother why now. God is with you and your family."

Benitez recently made the move from Club America to Qatari outfit El Jaish following two years at the Mexican club.

Prior to that, Benitez netted three goals in 30 appearances while on loan at the Blues during the 2009-10 season.
