A report claims that Premier League clubs will purchase 40,000 coronavirus testing kits at a total of £4m as officials target a June return to action.

Premier League clubs will reportedly spend a combined £4m on coronavirus testing kits in the hope of completing the season.

No football has been played in the English top flight since early March as a result of COVID-19, which has claimed the lives of nearly 29,000 people in the United Kingdom.

However, following a meeting between officials on Friday, it has been reported that the league may be back up and running by June 19.

According to The Sun, Premier League clubs are already in the process of testing players for coronavirus.

The report claims that 40,000 testing kits will be purchased in total, with clubs having to test players and staff members twice a week in the build-up to games.

A number of teams are believed to be hopeful of resuming full-contact training by the end of the month.
