Manchester United legends match raises £800,000 for charity

Manchester United's charity match involving club legends and a Bayern Munich All Star squad raises £800,000 for the club's Foundation.

A team of Manchester United legends and a Bayern Munich All Stars squad raised £800,000 for charity as the two went head to head at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Bryan Robson's team managed to see out a 4-2 victory over Paul Breitner's side courtesy of goals from Louis Saha, Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole and Jesper Blomqvist.

All proceeds from the event, which attracted 50,128 visitors, will be shared among the charities supported by the Manchester United Foundation.

Chief executive of the Foundation John Shiels said: "Today has been absolutely brilliant I would like to thank each and every one of the people who have come here today. You don't know how much this means to Manchester United Foundation.

"Manchester is full of fantastic young people and some of them need a little guidance, help and support and that's what Manchester United Foundation does. We go into the areas of social need and give help to those youngsters."

Robson added : "It was a great turn out from the fans so I have to thank them because they make this sort of day. It's also been great for the players; it was very similar to the Munich game over there when it was 3-3 - loads of goals, great entertainment and raising loads of money for Manchester United Foundation."

Singer Ella Eyre and last year's winner of The X Factor Ben Haenow performed at the event.
