Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez reportedly lowers the number of crimes in Mexico when he plays.

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has reportedly helped lower the crime rate in his native Mexico.

It has been claimed that incidents of crime lessen when the 24-year-old is playing, while there is also an increase of women going into labour.

Mexico City policeman Jorge Carlos Martinez told The Sun: "Crimes like car jacking, muggings and robberies go down. It seems even the criminals want to take time off to see our hero play. Also the birth rates go up."

Hernandez moved to Old Trafford in 2010 from Guadalajara.
