Top 50 players on FIFA 15 revealed, Lionel Messi beats Cristiano Ronaldo

Video game FIFA 15 reveals the top 50 players on the game, with Barcelona's Lionel Messi edging out Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid for top spot.

EA Sports' FIFA 15 has unveiled the top 50 players on the video game to be released later this month.

Barcelona's Lionel Messi, who stars on the cover, is the top-rated player yet again.

The Argentinian has been given 93 out of a possible 100 to finish one mark better than Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo, who won the Ballon d'Or earlier this year.

Ronaldo starts the game at 92, the same rating he had for last year's FIFA 14, while Messi's score drops one from 94.

Just three other players - Arjen Robben (90), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (90) and Manuel Neuer (90) - scored at least 90 in the latest edition of the franchise.

Eleven European clubs feature on the list, with German champions Bayern Munich (11) representing over a fifth of the countdown.

Champions League winners Real Madrid are next best with eight players in the top 50, while Chelsea and Manchester United are the best-represented Premier League sides with five apiece.

Spanish champions Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, don't feature on the list at all - Diego Costa and Thibaut Courtois, both now of Chelsea, were on last year's title-winning side and make the top 50.
