Police are reportedly looking into racist tweets sent to Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure just hours after he reactivated his Twitter account.
The Ivory Coast international spent five months away from the social networking website in order to focus on the World Cup in Brazil.
The 31-year-old rejoined the site on Monday and reflected on City's 1-0 win over rivals Manchester United by tweeting: "Great to be back on twitter after a good win yesterday. Now my focus is on the next game... Happy Monday everyone!!"
A few hours later, anti-discrimination group Kick It Out confirmed that they have contacted police about a number of vile tweets sent to the midfielder.
"At this stage we have received complaints about two separate tweets of a racist nature aimed at Yaya Toure and now we are informing the police," the Daily Mail quotes a Kick It Out spokesperson as saying.
"Yaya Toure has been on Twitter for a matter of hours and he has already received abuse of an appalling nature. We are disturbed by the fact that someone can be treated this way.
"It makes footballers start to question why they should use these platforms. We will offer Yaya Toure our full support."
Toure will now turn his attention to Wednesday evening's crucial Champions League match against CSKA Moscow at the Etihad Stadium, where only a win will give them hope of qualifying for the knockout stages.
