Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher All-Star match raises £1m for charity

The Liverpool All-Star charity match involving Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher has raised £1m.

The All-Star match involving Liverpool legends Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher has raised £1m pounds for charities in Merseyside.

The contest, in which Gerrard captained one team and Carragher the other, involved numerous big names, including Luis Suarez, Xabi Alonso, Thierry Henry and Fernando Torres.

The two teams played out an entertaining 2-2 draw on March 29 in front of 45,000 fans at Anfield, which played host to Gerrard's penultimate Liverpool game a fortnight ago ahead of his summer move to MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy.

"I'm delighted that we have raised £1m through what was such an enjoyable day for the fans, the local community, and the players who took part," Gerrard told Liverpool's official website.

"I hope that these funds will make a real difference to all of the local charities and I would like to thank everyone who supported the match because we couldn't have achieved this without such fantastic support."

The Liverpool FC Foundation will distribute funds between their existing programmes, as well as partner charities Alder Hey Children's Charity, Centre 56, Claire House Children's Hospice, Cash for Kids and Positive Futures.
