Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has been awarded for his work in the community on Merseyside.
The 37-year-old, who retired from football in 2013, picked up the Beacon Award for his philanthropic efforts through the 23 Foundation Soccer School.
The initiative has so far given funding of around £1m to eight schools in deprived areas, with a specific focus on sport.
"I hope that I can give youngsters a lift and that extra push to realise their goals," Carragher told The Telegraph. "Liverpool is a place that likes to see its own do well.
"It is a tight-knit community and growing up I got a lot of help and encouragement from people around me. I'm from an under-privileged area - Bootle in Liverpool. If I ever got the chance to help that area and the wider community I've always felt I would."
Carragher now works as a football pundit for Sky Sports.
