Tottenham Hotspur 'investigate Marcos Alonso car crash banner'

Tottenham Hotspur launch an investigation after two fans are allegedly seen with a banner referencing Chelsea wing-back Marcos Alonso.

Tottenham Hotspur are said to have launched an investigation after fans were alleged to have unfurled a banner containing remarks about Chelsea wing-back Marcos Alonso at the weekend.

Alonso, 26, was arrested in 2011 after driving his car into a wall in Madrid, an incident that led to a female passenger dying due to serious head injuries.

The Spaniard - then playing for Bolton Wanderers - received a fine of £54,000 and was banned from driving for three years for offences including drink-driving and speeding.

According to The Times, two Spurs fans were pictured outside their club's game at Huddersfield Town on Saturday with the banner, which featured Alonso's name above a picture of a car and a 'no drinking' symbol.

"This banner is clearly in extremely poor taste and we are investigating the matter," a Spurs spokesman told the newspaper. "If found to be a Spurs fan, they will be dealt with accordingly."

Spurs went on to win the game at the John Smith's Stadium by a 4-0 scoreline.
