Barcelona to review Qatar sponsorship due to "social and political" issues

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu reveals that the club are considering their sponsorship options due to the "social and political" issues in Qatar.

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has revealed that the club are considering new potential sponsors due to the "social and political" issues in Qatar.

The Spanish giants have had a deal with Qatar Sports Investments since 2010, but the situation in the Gulf State has caused Barca to consider their options.

"We will look at other options - we are obliged to do that," Bartomeu told RAC1. "It ends in 2016. We are sensitive to the current situation in Qatar, which has changed since four years ago. Now there are social and political aspects which were not there when we signed.

"We must be sensitive about what is happening and make the best decision for Barcelona. [Agents] IMG are studying it and working with us. We will see when it happens in October 2015."

Barca's current sponsorship deal is worth £123.4m.
