Queensland Reds captain Quade Cooper has reportedly been attacked in a Brisbane Hotel on Sunday just hours after finding out that he would not be in the Australia squad to face the British and Irish Lions.
The 25-year-old, who captained the Reds in the 22-12 defeat to the Lions on Saturday, apparently engaged in a heated argument with a patron at the Normanby Hotel on Sunday afternoon.
The confrontation resulted in the customer abusing Cooper and throwing a plastic cup of beer over him before being ejected from the building by security staff.
"Quade did nothing and, to be honest, I was surprised he didn't retaliate because I would have," a witness told News Ltd.
"He was hit with a full cup of beer. He was soaked in it. There was an argument and Quade stood up to him, but he was never going to throw the first punch."
Earlier in the day, Australia coach Robbie Deans confirmed that he would not pick Cooper for the Wallabies' Test series with the Lions.
