Anna Mayes rates current England netball team as best ever

Anna Mayes fires a warning shot to England's netball opponents in the Commonwealth Games by claiming that her side is the best in the nation's history.

England netball coach Anna Mayes believes that her current crop of players is perhaps the strongest in the nation's history ahead of the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

Team England could only manage a bronze medal in Delhi four years ago after being eliminated by rivals Australia, whom they face in this year's Games once again.

However, Mayes says that her side has every chance of going all the way in Scotland this summer, claiming that she is "very confident" about her team's prospects in Glasgow.

"This is probably one of the best England teams ever. It's also probably the best prepared England side given the support of Sport England and Commonwealth Games England," she told reporters ahead of tonight's opening ceremony.

"We have had an opportunity to train more frequently, making sure that we are all on the same page. We're feeling very confident about the capacity of this group.

"It's great to have seven athletes that have already experienced at least one Commonwealth Games as well as five athletes that haven't."

The Games officially kick off at 8pm this evening.
