Andrew Baggaley: 'Team England men's team have medal ambitions in Glasgow'

Andrew Baggaley, who is England's leading table tennis medallist in Commonwealth Games history, insists that confidence is high in the camp ahead of Glasgow 2014.

Team England's Andrew Baggaley has insisted that confidence is high within the men's table tennis camp as they look to get on the podium at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

British number one Paul Drinkhall has claimed that the squad are "in great shape" heading into the team event, which begins on the opening day of competition tomorrow.

Baggaley, who is England's leading medallist in the history of the Commonwealth Games, echoed these sentiments and has hinted that last-minute preparations will be relaxed as the group save themselves for Thursday's start.

"We've got the men's team first and need to be right up for the matches and, as always, we're looking to win a medal," he told reporters.

"It's just fine tuning now, it's not too much practice, just little bits to keep sharp. I feel sharp and I think we all do – we just need to feel confident. We had a warm-up match against Australia just before coming out here, which we won so that was good for the confidence.

"The key is not to over-train now, practice a bit and keep fresh so we can go for it."

Baggaley, 31, won two golds at Manchester 2002 and has since added three medals to his Commonwealth collection.
