Northern Ireland miss out on gold as South Africa triumph

South Africa hold off a late challenge from Northern Ireland to clinch gold in the men's triples with a 19-10 victory.

South Africa have recorded victory in the men's triples to leave Northern Ireland still awaiting their first gold medal of the Commonwealth Games.

A strong start helped South Africa to a 19-10 success, but a fightback from Northern Ireland threatened to produce a shock at Kelvingrove.

The early advantage proved to make the difference as South Africa opened up an 11-3 lead with just eight ends left to play in the final.

Northern Ireland then pulled back seven shots in just three ends, with the retiring Neil Booth making an impact for his side in the middle of the contest.

However, the challenge arrived too late as South Africa secured a third gold in lawn bowl's at the Games.
