Team GB's Gemma Gibbons has lost in the women's -78kg judo final.
Gibbons had enjoyed a miraculous run to the final, beating some of the best judokas in the world, but American Kayla Harrison proved too strong for her in the final to force Gibbons to settle for silver.
Optimism was running high that Gibbons could secure a surprise gold medal for Team GB, but Harrison dominated the bout, scoring with two yukos to take the gold.
France's Audrey Tcheumeo took the opening bronze medal match as she defeated Hungary's Abigel Joo with an ippon.
Brazil's Mayra Aguiar won the second bronze medal after she scored an ippon early on in her match against the Netherlands' Marhinde Verkerk.
