Nicklas Backstrom "very sad" to miss ice hockey final

Sweden center Nicklas Backstrom says that he was "very sad" after being ruled out of the ice hockey gold-medal match for failing a drugs test.

Nicklas Backstrom has said that he was "very sad" to miss the men's ice hockey final at the Winter Olympics today.

The Sweden center failed a doping test ahead of the gold-medal match against Canada in Sochi.

The 26-year-old told ESPN: "I was very sad and obviously, I felt bad for the guys, lots of guys were in the locker room when they called me out."

Backstrom has blamed the failed test on a substance found in his allergy medication, which he is permitted to take while competing in the NHL.
