Wales sunk by India in Commonwealth Games opener

It has been some 12 years since the Welsh men's hockey side have graced the Games, but an opening-game defeat ensured that it was not a happy return for the Dragons as they sit bottom of Pool A.

India, who won a silver medal in Delhi four years ago, took the lead through Ramachandra Raghunath early in the first half.

Andrew Kornick restored parity for Wales midway through the half, producing a smart finish to get his nation back on level terms.

However, the second half saw the cream rise to the top as India pulled away, with Rupinder Singh doubling their advantage before Gurwinder Singh Chandi sealed the win.
