Laura Halford: 'I cried for Frankie'

Laura Halford tells Sports Mole that she was reduced to tears by gymnastics teammate Frankie Jones's gold-medal winning performance in Glasgow.

Laura Halford has admitted that she was reduced to tears by teammate Frankie Jones's gold-medal winning feat in the gymnastics at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday.

The 18-year-old watched on as Jones took top honours in the final event, the ribbon, shortly after she had earned her own bronze in the ball event to take her Glasgow tally to three medals.

"I'm so happy for [Frankie]," Halford told Sports Mole afterwards. "I was crying for her at the end. She's done so amazing and I'm so pleased that she's been able to do this."

Halford went on to reveal that she thinks her Commonwealths experience will stand her in good stead for the Rio Olympics in 2016.

"I think this has really helped," she added. "You don't go to many events where you experience the atmosphere like this so it really helps to know what it's like. It's completely different. The build-up and name of this competition is just massive when you compare it to others where there's just a small crowd. It's really good."

Earlier, Jones told Sports Mole that she expects Halford to have "a big future" in the sport.
